Living our Best Lives at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

April 13, 2022 by Hannah Head

All aboard the monorail. It’s time to take a trip back to one of the “OG” Walt Disney World hotels. Located just a short ride or stroll from the Most Magical Place on Earth, the Magic Kingdom, you’ll find Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It’s one of three resorts that is home to the monorail system, and one of Walt Disney World’s most loved hotels. If you’re planning your next vacation to WDW and are contemplating which resort to give a try, we’ll lay out a few reasons why Disney’s Contemporary may just be the right choice. So, sit back, have fun, and please stand clear of the doors.

The Breakdown…

Staying at the Contemporary Resort can be pretty Incredible… and we mean that literally because that brings us to an important category of rooms that you and your family of heroes can stay at.

Photos Courtesy of Walt Disney Travel Company

Located in the Main Tower/Atrium of Disney’s Contemporary Resort is where you’ll find the newly reimagined Incredibles themed rooms that sleep up to 5 adults. They’re so “super,” even Edna Mode would say, “Marvelous, dahling.” Featuring a modern feel and Incredible nods, you’ll wake up each morning ready to fight crime and tackle the parks.

Venturing out into other parts of the resort, you can expect to see rooms with a modern twist. You’ll find categories like “Garden Wing – Standard View” all the way to “Theme Park View- Two Bedroom Suite- Club Level.” These rooms offer ranges of occupancy from 2 to 10 adults so, no matter if it’s just an adult getaway or a multigenerational gathering, you’re ready to go.

Tasty Treats

If you’re looking for a great meal, Disney’s Contemporary Resort has you covered! Sure, it has a great quick service option (Contempo Cafe) where you can get the perfect to-go meal, cupcake, and multiple pool bar options …but this resort is also home to not 1, not 2, but 3 highly sought-after restaurants. So, let’s dig in deep and take a look at those.

Steakhouse 71

Formerly The Wave, this newly reimagined restaurant takes you back to the original days of Walt Disney World. If you’re thinking to yourself, “Doesn’t Disneyland have a Steakhouse 55? Why’s the name different?” The answer is quite simple. Each restaurant was given their name based on the year the resorts opened in those locations. Not only is the restaurant name an ode to the history of Walt Disney World, but the menu was actually inspired by Walt Disney himself! Here you can try the Steakhouse 71 Feast or Walt’s Prime Rib Hash for breakfast and French Onion Soup, Prime Rib, 6-oz Filet Mignon, or Dry-aged Bone-In Pork Chop for lunch or dinner. The options are so tasty here, you’d call the 5-second rule if you drop it on the ground. **Here’s a tip: don’t forget to try the rolls and the massive chocolate cake.**

California Grill

If you’re feeling fancy, you’ll want to snag an Advanced Dining Reservation for this location. This signature dining experience offers an amazing menu with killer views. HELLO MAGIC KINGDOM! And if you want to “plus up” your experience, snagging a dining reservation during the nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom means a perfect view of the fireworks. California Grill is currently offering a Limited Time, 3 course 50th Anniversary Menu that is a fixed rate of $89 per adult and $39 per child (price does not include taxes or gratuities).

A couple of special things to note about California Grill. First, you’ll find the check-in for this dining destination on the 2nd floor of the Contemporary. There you’ll hop into a special elevator that will take you up to the 15th floor of the hotel, to the restaurant itself. Secondly, this is a signature dining experience. Therefore, a dress code is in place. While you don’t have to show up dressed like it’s a black-tie affair, you’ll want to skip the flip-flops, cut-off shorts, and tank tops here. You can find the full dress code recommendations on the Walt Disney World website.

Chef Mickey’s

This brings us to the star of the show… one of the most loved character meals within the whole of the Walt Disney World Resort, Chef Mickey’s. Maybe it’s the unique view of watching the monorail come through the Contemporary, the tasty meals you can enjoy, or the fact that Mickey and the gang are all there to say “Hi” in their chef attire, this restaurant is known for making some magical moments. If you’re hoping to take in this experience, you’ll want to grab an Advanced Dining Reservation at the 60-day mark when dining reservations open for your travel dates.

The 4-1-1 on Everything Else

Here’s some other great things to know about staying at this resort!

  • Getting around to the parks is easy peasy at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. If you’re headed to the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, you’ll want to head to the Grand Canyon Concourse, aka the 4th floor, to climb aboard the monorail. If you’re looking to get to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, or one of the water parks you’ll want to head outside through the lobby to get to the buses. Like to walk? Head out the lobby front doors and the right for a short walk to the Magic Kingdom.

  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort offers a wide range of recreational activities, so at this resort, you’ll never get bored.

  • If you are wanting a balcony, you’ll want to skip the “Garden Wing” rooms, as only the first floor has a patio.

  • While you’re hanging out on the 4th floor, make sure to check out the huge Mary Blair tile mural. It’s quite a beauty and see if you can find the 5-legged goat. It’s an important touch to this masterpiece. If you know anything about Mary Blair, you’ll know she’s one of the artistic masterminds behind It’s a Small World. She created this 5-legged friend as a tribute to the Native American spirit, which believes that nothing man creates is ever “perfect.”

Photos That Will Guarantee a Little FOMO at Universal Orlando

April 12, 2022 by Hannah Head

Let’s face it, while we don’t like to brag, giving our friends and family a little FOMO is never a bad thing. With so many social media trends constantly changing, it’s hard to keep up. One of the top souvenirs of a vacation are the photos you take during your adventure. Whether you’re planning to print them or post them on Instagram, we don’t want you to miss out on any fun. That’s why we decided to give you a list of some of the photos you’ll absolutely want to take on your next trip to Universal Orlando. You know… to show the squad back home what they’re missing out on.

gif

Lights. Camera. Hold on, my lens is dirty.

Before we get started, let’s start with some photo basics that everyone needs to know.

  • There is nothing worse than thinking you’ve nailed the perfect shot, only to see that your camera lens had some gunk on it. So, clean those phone lenses off first!

  • Second, lighting is key. Here’s a little saying you can tell yourself, “If the sun is on my head, the colors will be dead.” The sun can be your best, or worst, friend. Having it directly above you will more than likely bleach your photos out. So, take some time earlier in the day as the sun is rising to get some great pictures, or wait till the sun starts to drop.

  • Finally, if you want to be the center of attention, there’s nothing wrong with letting some others go first. The less faces in the photos = more eyes are on you!

Let’s take some photos!

#1 Round and round she goes.

You can’t miss her. She’s a beauty… and nothing says, “I’m on VACATION,” like a photo in front of the Universal globe! Make it fun. Hop on your partner/friends back. Do a handstand. Make it you. Just smile and say cheese.

#2 If you didn’t go to Hogwarts did you even go to Universal?

Harry Potter fans this one’s for you! Getting your photo taken in front of Hogwarts is a like a badge of honor. So, get your robes on and your wands ready!

#3 You’re My Girl Blue

Everyone loves Blue… and while we recommend you don’t get too close (she is a raptor after all), posing with this dino legend, or one of the members of her pack, is a must-do at Islands of Adventure.

#4 Simpsons… and Minions… and Trolls. Oh my!

One great thing about a trip to Universal Orlando is you’re surrounded by famous people. I mean, who doesn’t feel 10% cooler with you’re standing with Poppy? Plus, now that standard character meet and greets have returned, it’s the perfect time for a hug!

#5 Donut Calories “donut” count!

If you find yourself in Springfield U.S.A. you’re going to need a donut. They’re big, they’re pink, and they’re delicious.

#6 Everyone loves a superhero.

Inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure, you’ll find “Marvel Super Hero Island.” It’s home to a couple fan favorites like the Incredible Hulk Coaster and The Amazing Adventures of SpiderMan, so you’re sure to run into a few heroes now and then.

#7 Butterbeer… no other caption needed.

Just admit it. It’s basically a requirement for any trip inside the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Grab it, snap it, enjoy it then go back for more. (We won’t tell anyone.)

#8 Feeling like royalty at Universal’s CityWalk

… Donut royalty that is. Located at Universal’s City Walk, you’ll find the throne you’re heart desires, the throne of VooDoo Donuts. Hop in. Just don’t let all that sugar go to your head.

#9 You, me, and a day at Volcano Bay

Summer is almost here, which means blue skies and high temps. So, we saved the best picture for last. A great way to beat the heat and look like a vacation champ is soaking up some rays and splashing the day away at Volcano Bay.

These are just a few of the tons of fun pictures you can take on vacation at Univeral Orlando. The most important thing to do is have fun, say cheese, and enjoy the magic.

Did someone say fiesta? Four Places in Mexico Your Family Should See This Summer

March 29, 2022 by Hannah Head

Sum·mer (noun): The warmest season of the year.

How can the definition of such a wonderful thing, be so boring? The warmest season of the year? How about the season of fun? The season of sun? The season of forgetting what day it is? To us, one of the great things about summer is that it’s a time to get away and see something new while reconnecting with those we cherish most… and one of our favorite places to do that is in MEXICO!

gif

Places like Cancun are great for honeymoons and romantic getaways, but it’s also the perfect place to make memories with your kids, your friends, and your extended family. In this blog, we’re highlighting some of the top FAMILY resorts in Mexico your family should visit this summer.

#1 Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort

If you’re looking for a resort that is truly a “destination.” Look no further than Dreams Playa Mujeres.

If you’re looking for a resort that is truly a “destination.” Look no further than Dreams Playa Mujeres.

  • 65,000 square feet of swimming pools

  • An on-site waterpark

  • Live entertainment

  • World-class golf greens

  • Soothing spas

  • Oversized luxurious suites

  • An interactive Dolphin Habitat

Sounds amazing right?!

Let’s face it, kids get bored. Taking them away from a phone, tablet, or any other device gets harder and harder. Capturing their attention is easier when you’re doing things like riding a jet ski, climbing a rock wall, learning archery… or any one of the other items on a list of fun outdoor activities Dreams Playa Mujeres offers.

Have a golf lover in your family? Great news! Guests staying at Dreams Playa Mujeres can enjoy complimentary green fees at nearby golf courses: El Tinto Golf Course at the Cancun Country Club, El Mayakoba, Playa Mujeres Golf Course, Riviera Maya Golf Course, or Gran Coyote Golf Riviera Maya.

Did someone say spa day? Whether is a couples massage you’re after or even something special for the kids/teens, Spa By Pevonia you can melt your worries away with the perfect treatment.

#2 Hard Rock Riviera Maya

It doesn’t matter how old, or should we say young at heart, you are, it’s always fun to party like a rockstar.

This family-friendly resort is exactly that… a party. On top of the amazing pools and water park, Hard Rock Riviera Maya takes things up a notch with its typical “day-to-day” entertainment. Like a pool foam party…

Photo of our agent Nikki living her best life.

I mean, who said the parents couldn’t play while the kids are away? 😉 Another great thing about this resort is its Kids Club, the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club! It features different themes every day, so two days on-site are never the same. Your kids will be able to do things like arts and crafts, snorkeling, talent shows, even their own pool parties.

… And don’t worry about food or things like a spa because this resort has made sure to dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s.

#3 Moon Palace The Grand – Cancun

Next up on our list is Moon Palace The Grand – Cancun. Yes, it’s a mouthful but it’s a resort with an amazing family atmosphere. Ask them yourself. It’s not an all-inclusive resort. It’s an AWE-Inclusive resort.

First, let’s talk about the rooms. Each suite includes:

Foodies Rejoice! This resort will have you looking at the clock anxiously waiting for when your next meal is. If you’re craving Italian, Asian, French, Lebanese, or just need a good steak this resort is a great place to be.

Like some of the others on our list, your kids will thank you when they can burn off some energy at this luxury resort’s

water park. Plus, you can take advantage of things like 24-hour room service, non-motorized water sports, and free wifi… ’cause even the adults are going to want to show off your special moments on social media.

#4 Hotel Xcaret Mexico

Get ready to bookmark this page, because this resort offers more than you can imagine.

Go ahead and forget everything you know about what an all-inclusive resort is supposed to be like because this isn’t it. It’s hard to summarize such a unique destination in such a short couple of paragraphs, but we’re giving it a shot.

The first thing to mention is how the grounds of this resort look like they fell out of a movie. Who wouldn’t want to be resting in a hammock with that view? The food is spectacular… and the atmosphere will have you thinking about how soon you can get back to this resort. Another great thing about this one-of-a-kind place is all of the “plus ups” that are included in your stay.

When staying at this resort you’ll have access to:

  • XEL-HÁ PARK – A “natural park” that will run your battery dead on your phone from all the photos you’ll be taking. Where you can enjoy things like snorkeling, food, relaxation, actual nature, and world-class service.

  • XPLOR PARK – Here you can test your adventurous side while you have some fun in the jungle, go ziplining, drive amphibious vehicles, or tour refreshing underground rivers through stalactite caves.

  • XAVAGE PARK– If you crave an adrenaline rush, this is the place to be. You’ll have a choice of 4 extreme things to enjoy. Things like driving an off-road vehicle through an obstacle course or battling the waters of the ONLY RAPIDS in the Riviera Maya.

  • XPLOR FUEGO PARK– This is access to a little nighttime fun. You can do things like paddle with your own hands along “lava” rivers, enjoy some BBQ, or just kick back and relax by a bonfire.

  • XOXIMILCO CANCUN– It’s a nightly Mexican fiesta on a traditional gondola along jungle canals while dancing and singing with the live music of the mariachi.

  • XENSES PARK– This one the kids will absolutely love. It’s a place filled with illusion and wonder. “At this half-day park, you’ll enjoy unique sensorial experiences, along with two circuits of aquatic, terrestrial, and aerial activities, and more than 50 fantastic illusory scenarios as well.”

  • XENOTES ENIGMATIC WATERS TOUR– If you know what a cenote is, you know the beauty they hold. If not, picture the most magical body of water you can imagine. With this tour, you’ll see some of this area’s hidden treasures.

  • XCARET XAILING– “Discover the spectacular beauty of Isla Mujeres on the modern vessels by Xcaret Xailing. Spend a day exploring the best places and beautiful beaches of this small island off the shore of Cancun.”

*Note: Some of these amazing offerings do require special reservations, so make sure to get with your MMV agent to get it all squared away.

So, there you have it. Four places you should consider visiting this summer. Contact your MMV agent to get more info on these resorts or to look into another fun destination. The resorts listed above are just the tip of the iceberg of what Cancun has to offer.

Check out some of the fun our agents and their families have experienced in Cancun recently.

My wife and I recently traveled to Disney World with Hannah’s help and had an amazing time. We did what amounted to just a weekend in FL and Hannah was incredible at helping us plan our time, learn all of Disney’s tips and tricks, and hit everything we wanted to in our short time available. Would highly recommend her and will definitely be asking her to help us again when we go back!

Hannah helped us plan our family’s week-long Christmas Vacation to Disney World last December (2017)! This was when she was working as a cast member for Disney World, and having been there for 5 months prior, she knew the parks exceptionally well! For starters, after we told her we’d be doing the Disney 4 day Any Park Pass, she coordinated Fast Passes for highly popular rides on those days. That then helped us decide what order to go see the parks. For the most part, we only went to one park a day, but she also planned occasional special evening events at other parks (like parades, firework shows, etc). She also suggested we spend an extra $15 on wristbands that keep track out our individual accounts which listed our park pass, Fast Passes, character pictures from the park, starred or interested events, and wait times for rides to say the least. She introduced us to the Disney Park App which gave us a visual of the parks and or accounts! During days in which we didn’t go to the parks (4-day pass, week-long vacation) she gave us suggestions on places to see nearby, like the Disney Springs shopping center! We practically spent a whole afternoon and evening there window shopping and buying things! I myself was looking for a very specific gift for a gift exchange and she knew of the only two locations where the gift might be found: inside the Magic Kingdom or at Disney Springs. I found it at Disney Springs! On the rare occasion that plans didn’t work out (my wife had difficulties with her entry pass), Hannah worked with the customer services to resolve the issue quickly. She even showed up to the park one day to talk with the customer services face to face! Hannah...
